Ethics... too little, too late?

According to a report in the Washington Post: Bush orders staff to attend ethics training By By Jim VandeHei President Bush has ordered White House staff to attend mandatory briefings beginning next week on ethical behavior and the handling of classified material after the indictment last week of a senior administration official in the CIA leak probe. Well. I guess somebody's been talking to Bushy. Yesterday in Argentina, reporters continued to "hound" him about whether Rove will be keeping his job. A recent poll indicates that 60% of Americans think that Rove should resign. What the poll doesn't reveal is that the other 40% think that Rove should be suited up and sent to Iraq as a buck private. Responding to reporters' questions about Rove: "I understand that there is a preoccupation by polls by some," the president said. "The way you earn credibility with the American people is to declare an agenda that everybody can understand, an agenda that relates to their lives, and get the job done." That agenda is precisely what has so many American people--not to mention the rest of the world--worried. Bush had an agenda when he came into office, and his band of merry men doesn't seem to let anything--the Constitution, Geneva Conventions, ethics, morality, basic humanity or international law--stand in their way. The gist of the ethics course? Hmm... probably something like Ethics, like poisonous snakes and the avian flu, are best observed from a distance.
